Far East Square

North along Telok Ayer Street, past Cross Street on the left, is Ying Fo Fui Kun at No. 98, the first Hakka Clan Association founded in 1822 by the Hakka people from China.

Further down at No. 76 is Fuk Tak Chi Museum ¤ [map] , previously the Fuk Tak Chi Temple, dedicated to Tua Pek Kong the Earth God (tel: 6532-7868; www.fareastsquare.com.sg; daily 10am–10pm; free). Dating from 1824, it is Singapore’s oldest temple, set up by the Hakkas and Cantonese. The museum has a collection of 200 artefacts, including a Chinese gold belt, abacus board and even a rental expiry notice from early Chinatown residents.
